The Flap of the Hand

Section 1 - Flap - from workshop with the Siobhan Davies' Artists.
This section was influenced from the workshop where there was a word association tasks, and i
worked on the with the word FLAP and it started with the initial idea of flapping the hand.
Section 1a - Flap section leading with hands.
This section was created as a development of section 1 and was inspired by the layering workshop,
where on body had to lead, and lead into other movements.
Section 2 - Floor section
In this section i explored the idea of the hands leading but on the ground. However after
playing around with this idea, for some reason the movement just did not feel right,
therefore i erased this section of movement from my piece.

If i had been well enough to of finished and performed my solo then i would of liked to play around with the idea of repetition and the rhythm of my solo each time it was repeated. I think i would of also explored the different directions and levels of the motif.

Developing A Motif

With the motif I have created I plan to play around with it, repeating it with different things changings to see how if it works.
Direction.
Levels.
Dynamics.

Layering

After the workshop with Siobhan Davies' Artists, i started thinking about how that inspired me and how to use their feedback for inspiration for my solo. So using their inspiration i started looking through my journal for more inspiration, when i found a page on layering. This is it. I have found the starting point for my solo!
Starting point: FLAP!
Development: Layering with body parts

After working with these ideas today i am really intrested in the ideas behind my solos, which i have struggled with before, this has made me realise how important my journal is to me.
These ideas worked together better than i thought, using hands, elbows and shoulders seeing what movement that leads into. Movement that i didn't expect.

Workshop with Siobhan Davies' Artists

How fresh, How calm,
Stiller than this of course,
the air was in the early morning;
like the flap of a wave;
the kiss of a wave;
chill and sharp and yet..
Flap,
Flap.
Flap!

Different way of saying, different way of moving.

This is the word and the meaning i gave to the word that inspired me throughout this session. After showing one of the artists the movement i had been working, she gave me some feedback, intresting feedback, that i really used and that helped me to develop my movement. But feedback that will allow me to relate to other choreography tasks.

Specific Feedback:

Theres texture there but it can have more texture, keep layering and layering and layering.

Notice where your eyeline is and make your eyeline part of the choreography itself.

It's intresting the way your movements are gestural rather than dancey moves that flow, link, and look set.
General Feedback:

Think about what you are expressing specifically, and think about it all the way through.

These quotes are not the exact words of the artists but the basics of what they were talking about.

This workshop has really inspired me in many ways, especially as a starting point for my solo. I think i might use the movement i have created today and play around with it and see what happens.

What is Choreography

Personal movements.
Improvisation is a starting point and helps me spot unusual movement yet intresting movement for my body.
The creating of a piece - the art of arranging movement.
Expressions of personal experiences and feelings.
The laungage that my body speaks, which is different to everyone elses.
Ongoing thoughtful process, for me the thoughts come when i'm in bed trying to get to sleep meaning by the morning i sometimes forget them. I need to keep a book by my bed to write them down.
Fears of choreography?
Repeating same movements.
Expressing movements too personal.
I hate when i have to think of a them as i can never think of one that intrests me, so i need to work on this. I could do this by watching more dance pieces - videos or live, and reading more. Hopefully this will help me with my inspirations for dance.
